The Challenge
AVIXA, the Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association, was grappling with significant data quality problems in their Fonteva/Salesforce association management system. A previous data migration had introduced structural issues that compounded over time, resulting in duplicate records, inconsistent field mappings, and unreliable KPI calculations. Their Tableau reporting environment had grown organically to accommodate these issues, with data preparation workflows in Tableau Data Prep that processed over 17 million records — far more than necessary — and took six hours to refresh. The BI team spent more time troubleshooting data discrepancies than delivering insights to stakeholders.
Our Approach
CorrDyn conducted a thorough audit of AVIXA’s data pipeline from source to dashboard. We identified that the bulk of the processing overhead came from compensating for upstream data quality issues rather than actual analytical complexity. Instead of patching the existing Tableau Data Prep workflows, we replaced them entirely with optimized in-database views that handled cleansing, deduplication, and transformation at the source. We consolidated scattered field mappings and KPI definitions into a single governed layer, ensuring that every report drew from the same consistent definitions. We then updated the existing Tableau reports to connect to the new views and trained AVIXA’s BI team on maintaining and extending the system independently.
The Results
The pipeline refresh time dropped from six hours to twenty minutes — a 94% reduction — by eliminating unnecessary record processing and moving transformations closer to the data source. The record set was reduced from 17 million to 2 million by removing duplicates and historical artifacts that had accumulated from the original migration. AVIXA’s BI team regained confidence in their reporting and the ability to respond quickly to stakeholder requests, with a maintainable architecture they could extend without external support.
