The Challenge
A hedge fund was running its back-office operations almost entirely on manual, Excel-based processes. Trade data entry was performed by hand, introducing the risk of errors and consuming hours of analyst time each day. The firm’s research process was equally labor-intensive, requiring staff to manually review large volumes of news and market data to identify relevant indicators. Historical trade analysis — critical for refining investment strategy — was limited by the difficulty of extracting and organizing legacy data scattered across emails and spreadsheets.
Our Approach
CorrDyn built a suite of custom automation and data solutions designed to eliminate manual bottlenecks and give the fund a durable operational edge. We developed a research automation platform that used natural language processing to extract key indicators from thousands of news articles, delivering curated intelligence to the investment team in a fraction of the time manual review required.
We built a custom Trades Portal that centralized trade information management, replacing fragmented spreadsheets with a structured, auditable system. To unlock the fund’s historical data, we engineered an extraction pipeline that parsed trade records from years of archived emails, normalizing the data into a format suitable for quantitative analysis. We also built integrations with external service providers to automate data flows that had previously required manual coordination. Finally, we deployed a Tableau BI suite that gave leadership real-time visibility into fund performance, operational metrics, and research output.
The Results
The operational transformation enabled the fund to scale without proportional headcount growth — over five years, the firm added only one additional hire while growing the fund to four times its original size. The fund outperformed the HFRX Global Index for five consecutive years, supported by faster research cycles, cleaner trade data, and the analytical capabilities that the new infrastructure made possible.
