Estuary

Ingestion & Orchestration

Estuary does one thing exceptionally well: real-time change data capture that scales with your data, not against it.

CDC-native ingestion with volume-based pricing. For high-frequency data sources, the architecture and economics are hard to beat.

Estuary

Estuary is built on change data capture (CDC) from the ground up. Instead of periodically querying source systems for changes, it reads the database change log directly. Data arrives in your warehouse in near-real-time without putting load on the source database. This architecture matters for two reasons: it is gentler on production systems than query-based extraction, and it delivers data freshness measured in seconds rather than hours.

How We Use Estuary

Proven approaches from real client engagements.

01Where Estuary's Architecture Wins

The pricing model is volume-based rather than row-based. For sources that generate high volumes of change events (e-commerce transactions, event streams, IoT telemetry), this pricing structure scales predictably. A subscription apparel brand migrated Shopify and GA4 connectors from Fivetran to Estuary and cut ELT costs by 80%. The data arriving in the warehouse was identical. The downstream dbt models and dashboards required no changes.

For a healthcare analytics stack, we deployed Estuary as the ingestion layer alongside dbt for transformation, MotherDuck for the warehouse, and Omni for embedded dashboards. The entire stack went from assessment to production in 45 days. Estuary's speed of deployment contributed to that timeline.

02Knowing Where Estuary Fits

Estuary's connector catalog is focused on the sources where CDC delivers the most value. Before deployment, we check Estuary's supported sources against your stack. For mainstream databases (Postgres, MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB) and major platforms (Shopify, Stripe, GA4), coverage is strong. For long-tail SaaS tools, we confirm the connector exists or pair Estuary with another tool to fill the gap.

Estuary is a fast-moving company building out its ecosystem. The product is stable and the connectors we have used are reliable, and the documentation, community resources, and third-party integrations continue to expand. When a question comes up, the team is responsive and direct, which we have found speeds up deployment.

03How We Decide Between Estuary and Fivetran

The decision is per-connector, not per-platform. Most of our clients end up with a mix: Estuary for high-volume sources where the pricing advantage is meaningful, Fivetran for lower-volume SaaS connectors where the breadth and maintenance coverage justify the price, and dlt for custom sources that neither covers. The goal is the lowest total cost of ownership across the full set of data sources, not loyalty to a single ingestion tool.

We are an Estuary partner, which means Estuary sometimes refers clients to us for implementation work. That relationship exists because we give honest assessments of where Estuary fits and where it does not, and Estuary trusts us to make the right recommendation for each client's situation.

Frequently Asked
Questions

What is Estuary and how does it compare to Fivetran?
Estuary is a real-time data integration platform that uses change data capture (CDC) to move data from sources to destinations. Unlike Fivetran, which prices based on Monthly Active Rows, Estuary uses volume-based pricing that scales more predictably for high-frequency data sources like e-commerce transactions and event streams.
Is CorrDyn an Estuary partner?
Yes. Estuary sometimes refers their customers to CorrDyn for implementation work. We have deployed Estuary across e-commerce, healthcare, and analytics companies, typically for high-frequency sources where volume-based pricing is the better fit.
How much can we save by switching from Fivetran to Estuary?
Savings depend on your specific connectors and data volume. For e-commerce companies with high-frequency Shopify and GA4 data, we have achieved 80% cost reductions. For sources with lower row counts, the savings may be smaller. We evaluate each connector individually before recommending a switch.
Is the migration from Fivetran to Estuary risky?
We mitigate risk by running both tools in parallel during migration, validating row counts and schema compatibility before cutover, and testing all downstream dbt models against the new source tables. We do not decommission Fivetran until the Estuary pipelines are validated in production.
Does Estuary support real-time CDC?
Yes. Estuary specializes in real-time change data capture. For clients who need sub-minute data freshness, Estuary delivers it without the batch-window delays that some ELT tools impose. We have deployed Estuary CDC pipelines for healthcare applications where data freshness directly impacts operational decisions.
